PSYCTOTHERM participated with its own booth at the SMM maritime exhibition in Hamburg, which took place from September 6-9, 2022.

PSYCTOTHERM had the pleasure to share with the visitors of the exhibition the objectives of ORC4SHIP. The visitors' comments were encouraging for our research effort while showing a strong interest in the ORC machine and its "green" benefits.

ORC engine prototype was assembled and displayed in POSIDONIA exhibition 2022 at PSYCTOTHERM booth.

ORC engine attracted visitors' attention while members of the shipping community showed interest in exploiting further the technology as a promising reducting factor for fuel consumption and ship emissions.

DANAOS Management Consultants, also presented in the exhibition, supported the promotion of ORC4SHIP by sharing project insights to the hundreds of visitors passed by the company's stand.

The next step of ORC4SHIP is to demonstrate the machine on board and assess the anticipated value generation in a real operational environment.

The design of the ORC engine for the ORC4SHIP project has been completed. The ORC will be installed in the ship's engine room to recover heat from the engine’s cooling system. The 3D drawings show the layout of the 20kWe ORC unit with its main components.

A screw expander Hanbell was selected as the expansion device of the system, while a centrifugal pump Grundfos of vertical flow with magnetic coupling was selected to cover the needed head.

The whole engine was designed for organic fluid R1234ze (E). A shell-tube heat exchanger was designed as the engine’s condenser, while a plate heat exchanger was selected as evaporator.
